The member representing Ehime-mbano, Ihitte Uboma and Obowo LGAs in the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Deacon Chike Okafor, yesterday, 19th September, 2017 held a Special Town hall meeting for people of OKigwe South, especially those residing in Owerri.
The meeting which took place at Imo Youths Centre, Concorde bouleverd, New Owerri attracted a mammoth crowd of Okigwe South people who had come to honour the invitation of their illustrious son.
The meeting lasted from 3pm to 5pm but it achieved so much, in terms of its set objectives.
Hon. Deacon Chike Okafor started by personally recognizing all present and quickly proceeded to reel out some of his achievements in the past 27 months in the Green chambers. Chief among the achievements is the employment opportunities he had facilitated, for medical and non medical personnel, in all the Health institutions under his watch, including NAFDAC, Teaching Hospitals, Federal Medical Centers just to mention a few.
Hon. Okafor went further to say that many people had benefitted from his empowerment scheme and that of his wife, Deaconess Akudo Okafor.
He recalled the first of its kind, Free Medical Outreach program which organized, between September 2016 to January 2017 during which over 16,000 persons from within and outside the state were attended to, including over 560 major surgeries and child births.
He assured the people that more goodies await them, as he is set to Revitalize Primary Health care centers across Okigwe zone and beyond, in preparation for the 2017 free medical outreach. This he said will be a prelude for the establishment of Cottage Hospitals in each of the three Local Government Areas in Okigwe South, as well as the establishment of the 2nd NAFDAC in the entire Southeast, which will be situated in Obowo. According to him, his desire is to use the singular opportunity of his good office as the Chairman, House committee on Healthcare Services, to insure the health of his people.
He also stated that work is on at the various Police stations he is constructing across Okigwe South to ensure that the people enjoy better security, and to facilitate the establishment of Banks in the Obowo -Malaysia Market in Umungwa.
Addressing the traders affected by the relocation of Eke Ukwu Owerri, he gave a brief history of the effort by the previous administrations in the state to relocate the market, to no avail. According to him, this at least shows that the relocation is not a new program in the state capital. He assured the people that the state Government has good intentions for relocating the market and that it was rather unfortunate that a life was lost in the process. In a bid to drive home his message of hope, he told the that "you can fault the Governor's style, but you can't fault his good intentions". Thus, he had called them to see how to support them to relocate to the new markets without much difficulties.
The meeting was graced by the member representing Obowo state constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Barr. Kennedy Ibeh and the member representing Ihitte Uboma in the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Mrs Uche Ejiogu Ph.D, immediate past commissioner for Youths, Sports and Public Safety, Hon.
