Okigwe South passes vote of confidence on Hon. Deacon Chike Okafor
... As Hon. Deacon Chike Okafor offers scholarship to intending Anglican priests in Okigwe South
The people of OKigwe South have risen in one voice to pass a Vote of Confidence on the member representing Ehime-mbano, Ihitte-Uboma and Obowo in the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Deacon Chike John Okafor.
This Vote of Confidence which was conveyed by non other than the Anglican Bishop of Okigwe South, Rt. Rev'd David O.C. Onuoha, was delivered during the 3rd session of the 8th Synod of the Diocese of Okigwe South, which ended on 30th May, 2017.
Delivering his Presidential Address, on the topic "Reaping and sowing", during the Synod, Bishop Onuoha recounted the various life changing feats as well as the various firsts that Hon. Deacon Chike Okafor has so far achieved as a public servant and must reap the fruit of his good deeds. The Bishop recalled with deep emotions how his own community, Ikperejere, and even Dioka-Nzerem in Ehime-mbano, which had never seen public power supply, since the world began, was single-handedly electrified by Hon. Okafor. According to the Bishop, it is a rare feat, in an era of selfish leadership to see a man rescue from obscurity, communities that share no consanguinity with him, by any means. Yet, Hon. Okafor apart from donating transformers to almost every community in Okigwe South, and provided part of the funds for energising the transformers, started and completed the electrification program of some of these communities without making noise about it.
The Bishop also recalled that Hon. Deacon Chike Okafor had last year embarked on a first of it's kind Free Medical outreach in the entire Okigwe South, which lasted from October to December during over a hundred surgeries and about twenty births were recorded without casualty and at no cost, which prompted most of the parents to name the babies after Hon. Chike Okafor and the wife, Deaconess Akudo.
Bishop Onuoha said he could go on and on, but for fear of sounding political, that he had to stop by acknowledging the life of a daughter of OKigwe South South which was saved by the Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, through the donation of N3 Million for proper medical care, of which Hon. Deacon Chike Okafor was instrumental in taking the concerned people to the Governor which made the assistance possible.
Bishop Onuoha further stated that despite being of another denomination, Hon. Deacon Chike Okafor had shown so much commitment to the affairs of the Anglican Church in OKigwe South, even through his harvest support in all the parishes, that one would feel he was on his way to becoming an Anglican.
Responding, Hon. Deacon Chike Okafor said that he was humbled by the Bishop's acknowledgement of these humble contributions to the society and quickly added that he is first a Christian, before any other thing and at such tries as much as possible to bring Christ into his daily activities, of which the result is part of what the Bishop had recounted. He expressed unreserved gratitude to the people for finding him worthy to serve and reiterated that he can only do better. He went on to pledged to take up the training of 6 intending Anglican priests (full scholarship) every year till Jesus comes.
The Synod which was well attended was graced by over 20 Bishops from different parts of the country.
Hon. Deacon Chike Okafor was accompanied to the Synod by the member representing Okigwe North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Engr. Obinna Onwubuariri, Chief Sir Emma Bukar, the APC Chairman for Ehime-mbano LGA, Prince Daniel Chukwuocha, the Senior Legislative Aide to the Speaker of the House of Representatives and a host of others.
Also present were Prof. Chinedum Nwajiuba, Vice Chancellor of Federal University, Ndufu Alike (FUNAI), Former member Representing Okigwe South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and currently the Director General of TETFUND, Hon. Barr. Emeka Nwajiuba, wife of the late Governor of the old Imo State, Her Excellency, Mrs. Mbakwe, Former majority leader in the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Stanford Onyirimba just to mention a few.
