House Committee walks out NDDC Team
There was palpable tension in the
Green Chambers on Monday 14th December, 2015, as House of
Representatives Ad Hoc Committee investigating Non Remittance or Mismanagement
of Non oil Revenue, led by Hon Chike Okafor during its public hearing session
at the National Assembly complex, walked out the team of Niger Delta Development
Commission (NDDC) led by the Executive Director Finance, Dr.
Itotenaan Henry Ogiri and the team of Nigerian
Communications Commission, (NCC) led by the Executive Director Public affairs.
Trouble started when the Ad hoc committee chairmen insisted that the chief executives
of these agencies must appear before the House Committee in person in the next
scheduled hearing session.
Hon. Chike Okafor, Chairman of the Ad Hoc Committe
The Ad hoc committe Chairman, Hon. Chike Okafor insists the house would
want to deal with only the heads of the MDAs
who are expected to answer questions on none remittance of taxes/revenue
to the federation Account.
It will be recalled that the Rt.
Hon. Yakubu Dogara led Green had set up a committee specifically to investigate
allegations of non remittance or mismanagement of government taxes/revenues.
This of course is in line with the promise of the principal officers of the
National Assembly to assist the President Muhammadu Buhari led Federal
Government in its effort to recover all loot and non-remittances to the federation
account. With the steady fall of crude oil price in the international market,
the federal government is determined to look towards non-oil revenue with which
to drive the economy.
